Stress, Pain, and Healing
Hypnotherapy is proven:
To Reduce Stress and Pain2
To Speed Healing3,4
To Enhance Immunity.5
You’ll get more benefit from physical therapy if you’re able to work at it harder, in more comfort, and with less stress.
Your healing will be faster with less chance of infection because while Stress Actually Suppresses The Immune System;1 leaving you more open to infection, Hypnotherapy Enhances Immune Response.1
Visits to hospital, rehab and your home are available.
Blocking of pain REQUIRES a physician referral.
Hypnosis is proven to reduce or eliminate pain and anxiety and we understand how to use it for these. However the mechanisms involved are still partially unclear. Ongoing research is advancing our understanding.Spiegel (2007) has this to say:
"Hypnotic analgesia is real, no less palpable an analgesic than medication, although the pathways are different and do not seem to involve endogenous opiates. Rather, hypnosis seems to involve brain activation via dopamine pathways. Thus, it is not surprising that hypnosis, which mobilizes attention pathways in the brain, can be used effectively to reduce pain perception and anxiety."
Hospital Visits
Hospital visits require a referral from your attending physician. If you’ll be in hospital for some time this may be the best option. Whether you’ve had "Preparation For a Medical or Dental Procedure" or not, we will begin to move your recovery forward.A pain block may be established so that while you’re in bed you feel comfortable, but if you need to get up, you will feel a portion of the actual feelings. This protects you from overdoing while providing a good degree of comfort.
Also the pain block can be "turned off" so that when your doctor is examining you, you feel the actual feelings. Your doctor needs to get an accurate picture of your condition.
If your doctor thinks it appropriate, varying degrees of pain block can be utilized even when you’re up and about or during physical therapy.
Rehab Visits
If needed I will meet with your physical therapist to establish the appropriate level of pain block.Physical therapy requires moving parts of your body that may cause pain. Physical therapy is an important part of your recovery. The intension is to push enough to keep the parts moving separately and to get the desired range of motion, etc., but without going past the appropriate line. Passing the appropriate line will increase injury and set your healing back.
Varying degrees and forms of pain block can be established.
Remember - doing too little when it comes to your physical therapy, may mean an unnecessary loss of abilities.Home visits:
